Silas Marder Gallery: Holiday Salon

The Next Wave: A Third Generation Of Studio Furniture Makers

I will be exhibiting Desk #2 and Chair #4 at the Windsor Art Center in Windsor Connecticut. The exhibition will be running from July 9 to August 20. The exhibition features 12 furniture designer/makers who are defining the modern studio furniture movement.

Tripoli Galley- Bench and Cocktail Table

I brought a second piece over to the Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art In Southampton NY. The new piece is a cocktail table in Sapele. The new table continues the exploration of glass and curved wood that I have been into recently. The Curved Dovetail Console Table is this tables predecessor.

I am very happy with the way that the two pieces look among the paintings so if you are in Southampton stop by and check out the galley.

Smithsonian Craft Show 2011

The Smithsonian Craft Show officially started yesterday with a speech from the Secretary of the Smithsonian G. Wane Clough. He pointed out that the Building Museum is one of the finest buildings in the city. I have to say that I am blown away by it.

Tripoli Gallery

I dropped of a bench at Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art in Southampton NY. Trip has been renovating the gallery and wants to have some functional art in place of the previous furnishings. I was happy to oblige and it will be nice to have work in the village again! Plus my brother Darius shows with Trip. Come to think of it the last time I showed with Darius he dropped a light on a bench of mine.

Trip wants to go for a more flexible layout to the gallery so he will be needing something to replace the built in counter/desk that he took out. I offered to build a coffee table that could be at the heart of that new work station/lounge area. The piece will go just about where he is standing in the picture above. This is going to be fun! I had similar arrangement in Southampton once before with Clarke Fine Art. Off to get started before I am off to Smithsonian

Smithsonian Craft Show 2011

I will be participating in the 29th annual Smithsonian Craft show this year. The represents the finest in american crafts in a number of disciplines including furniture. The show will be held at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.

AAEH Studio Tour 2010

I will be opening the doors to my studio on July 8-10 in conjunction with the Artist Alliance Of the East End. They have been organizing studio tours in the Hamptons for the last 25 years.

Tickets should be purchased ahead of time through a number of local businesses. The complete list can be found here at the AAEH website. The ticket price is tax deductible and will help the Artist Alliance continue to support the Artists who live and work in The Hamptons.

The Members exhibit opened tonight, July 2, and will run through Sunday July 11 at 3:00pm at Ashawagh Hall in The Springs. The show offers a great opportunity to see the work of the membership and get a sneak peak at the work of the artists participating in the studio tours. More information is available here

The Berkshire Botanical Garden is presenting the outdoor benches of six artists in a show curated by Joyce Nereaux. I will be exhibiting three benches and a pair of my planters. This is the first time that I have exhibited three of the four benches in my outdoor series in the same show (Outdoor Bench #2 is on view at the Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton NY). Outdoor Bench #4 was recently completed and makes its debut in the show. The bench features cast concrete, Sapele and Stainless Steel in its 10′ footprint.

Benson Keyes Gallery – Southampton NY

Earlier in the summer I participated in a group show at the Benson Keyes Gallery in Southampton NY. I have worked with Kimberly many times over the years so I found the whole experience familiar. What was not familiar was the 4000 sq ft space with 30 ft high ceilings!

I wish I had a shot of the outside. The space is broken up into a few interior rooms which allows the art to be discovered as you travel through the gallery. That said I was happy to be front and center!

I had one more piece in the room behind the Bent Hall Table.
